David Williams Jr.
Council Members are elected by the voters to serve on the City Council. Four are elected from their geographic districts and two are elected Citywide. Council Members participate as equal members of the City Council in deliberating City business and setting policy.
David Williams, Jr. is a native of Florida, born in the City of Daytona Beach. He has resided in Miami, Florida since the early 1980s. He is a graduate of Florida A and M University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree. He received a Master of Science from Barry University. As a scientist, he received his clinical training at the VA Hospital in Tuskegee, Alabama, completed preceptor ships, receiving extensive training and clinical study in the areas of obesity and weight management, endocrinology and cardiovascular disease. David's knowledge and expertise served the pharmaceutical industry for over 33 years. During his tenure, he was responsible for training physicians in the pharmacological effects of drugs in cardiovascular and thyroid disease. He currently serves as the Director of Community Relations for Informed Families, National Family Partnership, a non-profit prevention organization focusing on educating families and helping kids grow up safe, healthy and drug-free.
David's passion and commitment to family and children forced an early retirement from the pharmaceutical industry and its international travel demands. Since that time he has followed his passion of community activism with a strong emphasis on children, families and education. His current activities with the school system include Miami-Dade County Public School Superintendent Family and Community Involvement Advisory Committee and Miami-Dade County Public Schools Wellness Advisory Committee. David's commitment to family and children does not stop there.
Mr. Williams has held many leadership positions. In 2008, he became the Gubernatorial Appointee for The Children's Trust Governing Board of Directors. He serves as the Vice Chairman of the Finance Committee for the Trust, and a member of the Executive Committee. Mr. Williams is a board member with The Early Learning Coalition for Dade/Monroe Counties. David serves as the Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors for the North Dade Community Development Federal Credit Union and the Chairman for the Jessie Trice Community Health Center Foundation Board and a member of the Jessie Trice Community Health Center Board.
His activism has earned him recognition and awards throughout the community: The Specialty Endowment Award, The Chapter One Honor Service, Citizen of the Year Award, and many others. The David Williams, Jr. Science Lab at Parkway Middle School was dedicated in his honor. Councilman Williams' commitment to children and education continues as he advocates for the inclusion of science labs and the increase of student academic achievement in literacy with an emphasis on science throughout Miami Gardens and Miami-Dade County Public Schools.
