Major Audrey Coney-Brown

Major Audrey Coney-Brown has over 39 years of experience in law enforcement. She began her career in 1975 with the City of Miami Police Department. She was initially hired as a secretary serving in the office of the Chief of Police. In 1980 she was promoted to the position of police officer and in 1989 promoted to the position of Sergeant. She supervised various units, i.e. Patrol, Background Investigations, Health Services and Communications.

After serving the Miami Police Department for 32 years, she retired in March, 2007. Upon hearing that a police department was being established in her community, she felt that her vast amount of experience and knowledge would benefit the agency, as well as the City of Miami Gardens in which she has been a resident for over 30 years. She joined the Miami Gardens Police Department in June 2007 as a Sergeant and worked diligently in the Background/Professional Compliance Unit to assist with the hiring process of the first 150 police officers. Also, her assignment included conducting Internal Affairs Investigations, supervising the Fleet, Property/Evidence, Communications, Community Relations and Radio Units under the Support Services Division. In 2013, she was promoted to the position of Captain within the Support Services Division, in which she continued to manage all units within the Division.

On May 10, 2014, she was promoted to the position of Major, managing the Criminal Investigations Division. She is responsible for the following units: Homicide, Burglary, Pawn Shop, Robbery, Assault, Special Victims, Domestic Violence, Victims Advocate, Crime Scene Investigations, Economic Crimes, Auto Theft and Crime Analyst.

Major Brown has a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration from Florida International University. She graduated with honors, Summa Cum Laude. She has also attended numerous in-service training courses and conferences. She has a passion for serving her community with the highest level of professionalism and integrity. Major Brown is the first African American female to be promoted to the positions of Captain and Major within the Miami Gardens Police Department. Major Brown is honored to be promoted to the position of Major and accepts her role with humility.
